GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER CREAMER MILK JUG by Alexander Field London England 1801

Description

Georgian solid sterling silver creamer/milk jug.
A hand hammered oval bowl with a wide pouring spout and angle handle.
Decorated with engraved foliage around bowl,
please see photos.
Engraved initials of crest almost rubbed off
into a "laurel wreath" cartouche.
Hallmarked under a pouring spout:
not crisp and clear initials "A F" for Alexander Field,
(a typical work for Alexander Field);
"Lion Passant" for British sterling silver;
"Crowned Leopard Head" for city of London;
date letter "E" for 1800;
bust of "King George III" for tax/duty.
Marks are not crisp but readable.

Dark spots you are seeing on the photos,
are reflections of a camera and other objects.
Reinforce to underside looks like an old repairs,
but Peter Waldron in his book "The Price Guide to Antique Silver"
(2001 Edition, London, U.K.), describes it as a way that was used
by some British silversmiths in 18th. Century,

Light/minor scratches, just indication of age and use.
Clean, free of dings and dents.
Commensurate with age, the condition is very good.
